Best Bites for Belcaroans

Good food and good value can be found in Santa Clarita restaurants. The trick is to know where to look.

So, through trial and error and ingestion of thousands of calories, we have come up with our short list of when the inevitable "what do you want to do for lunch/dinner?" question arises. And for what it's worth, I'd like to share it with you.

Here are a few of our current neighborhood favorites.

Catch 21
28263 Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia
(661) 775-9714

If I had to pick one place that has it all - taste, quality and value - this is the one. For about elleven bucks, tax included, you can get a char-grilled or fried fresh fish seafood entree, baked potato, salad and a soft drink. Not a fish eater? No problem. The offerings also include chicken, entree salads, sandwiches and wraps. Also, try the mighty meaty pork ribs, which can be had in a trifecta combo with fried shrimp and char-grilled chicken breast.

The Kona Crisp
River Oaks Shopping Center
24341 Magic Mountain Parkway, Santa Clarita
(661) 287-3123

Hawaiian barbecue? Authentic Hawaiian fare. What you should expect is delicious, overstuffed beef brisket, barbecues chicken or pulled pork sandwiches, ample burgers, ribs, creative salads and other All-American fare, accessorized with fries or onion rings. The Kona Crisp offers yummy comfort food in a casual environment.
